Chief Executive Officer

  • LOCATION: This role will be a hybrid role, with a requirement to travel to one of our regional offices twice a month (Bedford or Nottingham).                                                                   

  • HOURS: Negotiable, between 3 - 5 days per week

  • SALARY: £46k - £50k pro rata depending on experience, plus 5% pension contribution

  • CONTRACT: Permanent       


Welcome Churches is the largest organisation in the UK Church helping the Church engage with the increasingly pressing topic of refugees. We equip and support churches as they welcome refugees and people seeking asylum in their communities. Together, we work towards our vision to ensure no refugee is alone.

About the role:

As CEO, you will be responsible for leading and developing our organisation, ensuring its strategic direction and financial sustainability. You will work closely with our Board of Trustees, staff, volunteers, and partners to achieve our mission of creating a more welcoming society.

Key responsibilities:

  • Strategic leadership: Develop and implement a clear strategic vision for the organisation, aligning with our mission and values

  • Financial management: Oversee the financial health of the organisation, ensuring sound financial planning and budgeting

  • Team leadership: Lead, inspire, and develop a high-performing team, fostering a positive and inclusive culture

  • Fundraising and partnerships: Build and maintain strong relationships with donors, funders, and partners to secure sustainable funding

  • External relations: Represent the organization at a strategic level, engaging with government, media, and other key stakeholders

  • Innovation and growth: Drive innovation and growth, exploring new opportunities to expand our impact and reach

Ideal Candidate:

  • Passionate about the mission of Welcome Churches and committed to social justice

  • Proven leadership experience in the charity or non-profit sector

  • Strong strategic thinking and planning skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proven fundraising and partnership development experience

  • A collaborative and inclusive leadership style
